View of Pleasant Valley
Here is what it looked like after I thought it was finished:

I sent it off to a show in Utah and didn't look at it for about a year. Once I got it back, I couldn't resist working on it some more. So I pumped up the color, softened the background, added some texture to the foreground, and softened all my edges quite a bit. Here's what it looks like now:

Here it is finished. The glare from the florescent lights above aren't helping any, but I swear it looks sweet in person.

Guided sketch books for kids
Creature
While at Costco last night, by myself, I almost bought this amazing book. I was told not to splurge so I didn't get it, but it's really great. Here's one of the photos from the book. I was actually thinking it would be a great reference book to sketch from.

UPDATE: Even WIRED thinks this book is cool. They have tons of pics from the book here.

Gerhard Richter

I saw this painting at the small private gallery that the MOMA operates out of the 1st floor of the Gap Corporate building here in San Francisco. I think the only way you can see it is if you have a willing Gap Corporate employee as your escort. Anyway, it's my favorite Richter painting, and breathtaking in person.

"Almost Sundown", Oil on Linen, 22" x 11"
When I was at Utah State Robert Coombs was the one guy that should have been showing at galleries instead sitting in class. Now he's taken home the $15,000, Best of Show Award, at the 2006 Oil Painters of America National Juried Exhibition. (Tony Pro won this award last year.)

"First Leaves of Autumn", Oil on Raymar Panel, 16" x 11"
Robert was also awarded the $10,000 Grand Prize at the Raymar's First Annual Fine Art Competition for the painting shown above.

Internet Tip #1: Find more sites that you love
One way to do it is to search for all the sites that link directly to the site that you're so fond of...
Say you like a design blog called, designsponge.blogspot.com. If you type in "link:designsponge.blogspot.com" into any search engine, it will return all the sites it found that link to that site. You can also go to Marketleap and use their link popularity check tool and they will look up your site in several different search engines at once, and rank your site next to other sites so you can tell how "popular" it is. When I searched designsponge.blogspot.com on Marketleap's tool, it showed that it's linked to by over 250,000 sites. More than Coke.com and MarthaStewart.com and just a little less than eTrade.com and Napster.com. Amazing huh!

Save Gocco

Dec 10 2005
It was announced this week that riso, the parent company of gocco, will eventually discontinue all "print gocco" products in it's home japanese market due to a 40% decline in domestic sales. riso will pursue other product lines not related to gocco.
additionally, riso will cease importing "print gocco" systems and supplies to north america. while gocco exposure units are scarce, dealers have been assured there is a 3 year supply of all other gocco products.
For all of us that love Print Gocco, this comes as sad news.
Hopefully it will be picked up by another company!
